Niskayuna -Timothy Stachnick, 70, passed away on December 22, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Tim lived his life as a testament to his love of family, friends and giving his time to the community, parish and neighborhood.
Tim was born in Elizabethtown, NY. He was the son of Helen (Sulette-Stachnick) Ryan and step-father Francis “Bud” Ryan, of Colonie, NY. Tim was a 1971 graduate of Colonie Central High School, earned an Associate’s Degree from Dean College, Franklin, MA and a Bachelor’s Degree from Springfield College, MA.
While at Dean College, Tim met his future wife, Kathleen (Johanson) of Massapequa, NY, and they married in 1975.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, their two sons, Ted (Lynn) Stachnick and Dan (Nicole) Stachnick, three grandchildren, sister Linda Stachnick, step-sister Toni (Mike) Duffy, his Aunt Lucy Sulette, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Tim began his career excelling in sales for American Strip Steel and Ware Industries. In 1987, he bought the existing business J.R. Builders’ Supply Corp. in Albany, NY. Over the next 29 years, the business flourished under Tim’s leadership and direction.
Tim will be remembered for the exceptional devotion and love he showed in raising his two sons. He took great pride in teaching them the values of hard work and the importance of family, while instilling a love of the outdoors including fishing, camping, hiking and hunting.
Tim loved spending summers “at the lake” in the Adirondacks swimming, boating, and fishing with family and friends, and enjoyed reading and learning new card games with friends. Along with outdoor activities, he bowled many years at Sunset Lanes, Albany. Tim was an avid NE Patriots football and Red Sox Baseball fan since his college days.
Tim was active throughout his life in the community. He coached Little League Baseball teams, was involved with YMCA Indian Guides with his sons, and was a member of the Bethlehem Sportsman Club. Tim attended St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Niskayuna, NY, and participated in many ministries. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving the level of Third-Degree Knight.
