Thomas Sperbeck Obituary

Schenectady – Thomas E. Sperbeck, 85, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 17, 2021 at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Tom and Mary Ikin Dempster. Tom was from Scotia and Rotterdam, graduating from Nott Terrace High School. He loved Lake Champlain and spending time in the Adirondacks. Tom played the bagpipes, and his family was instrumental in the creation of the Schenectady Pipe Band. He served in the US Army from 1955 through 1957, stationed in France.

Tom was a tool and die maker with Pratt & Whitney and then a Project Engineer for NL Industries and Campbell Plastics. He was a member of the Clifton Park Elks and the Saratoga Auto Museum. He was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed boating and golfing. He was also an amazing handyman who loved tinkering and fixing things. Tom had a fun sense of humor and loved playing with the kids because he was always a big kid  at heart himself.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Ann Gyomory Sperbeck. He is the devoted father of Carrie (Mark) O’Neill and Thomas Sperbeck Jr. Tom is the grandfather of Crystal (Dan) Lourinia, Tiffany (Dan) Sharon, Kurt (Karen) Schrader and Danelle (Ashish) Shah. He is the brother of Lenny (Estee) Dempster and Betty Fay. Tom is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Community Hospice for their support and guidance during this difficult time.
