Obituary

SCHENECTADY – Thomas James Kennedy, 83, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born in Amsterdam and was the son of the late James and Florence Kennedy. Tom was a graduate of Bethlehem High School and Suny Canton. He served in the US Navy where he became a ASW pilot and received an honorable discharge in 1964. Tom was employed with Niagara Mohawk Company for 28 years. Tom was an avid animal lover, especially dogs.

Tom was predeceased by his son Andrew in 2008 and his grandson Andrew in 2004.  He is survived by his beloved wife Penny Schaefer Kennedy. He is the devoted father of Beth (Tim) Knight of Rotterdam. Tom is the cherished grandfather of Mickey Knight, Isabella, Jack Kennedy and the late Andrew Kennedy. He is the brother of Maggie (Gary) Thompson and the uncle of Matt Thompson and Amy Thompson Ponessa.

In keeping with Tom’s wishes, funeral services will be private. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Tom’s favorite charity; St. Joseph’s Indian School, 1301 N. Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57325 or to the charity of one’s choice.
