Robert DuBois Obituary

Clifton Park - Robert G. DuBois, 93, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 7, 2024 in Clifton Park, NY.

 Born in Modena, NY on April 16, 1930, he was the son of the late Simon and Laura (Alsdorf) DuBois. He graduated from Wallkill Central High School in 1948 and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College from 1948-1951. In college, he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and the Benzine Ring Club.

In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was a Pilot during the Korean War from 1951-1953. After completing Aviation Cadet Training, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant and flew in Korea and Japan with the 315th Troop Carrier Wing conducting operations with the rank of Captain. Returning stateside to Hempstead, Long Island he was assigned to train reserve pilots in Troop Carrier Operations. He then continued with the rank of Captain as a Senior Pilot for 12 years in the Ready Air Force Reserve.

In March of 1953, he married his wife of 71 years, Jane Kimlin of New Paltz. After leaving active duty in 1956, he began his 32 years of employment with the New York Telephone Company, in which he retired as a Staff Manager (Special Services) in 1988. Throughout his lifetime, he served as an elected Village Trustee on the Board of the Village of New Paltz, NY and was a member of the New Paltz Methodist Church and the New Paltz Fire Department.

After being transferred to the Capital Region in 1965, he became a member of the Pine Grove Methodist Church in Colonie, NY and the American Legion Mohawk Post 1450 in Halfmoon, NY. He was a past member of the Colonie, NY and Lady Lake, FL chapters of the B.P.O.E. Elks Club as well as the Telephone Pioneers of America. He and his wife, Jane, spent 10 years living at the Villages in Lady Lake, Florida where they were avid golfers and sports enthusiasts enjoying the Southern lifestyle before returning to Saratoga County.

In 2015, Robert was a proud participant of a Patriot Flight visit to Washington, D.C. which honored Capital District Veterans. During his retirement, he also enjoyed woodworking, reading books on many different topics, spending time with his family and attending his great-grandchildren’s baseball and softball games.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane (Kimlin) DuBois, his three daughters: Joanne Costello (Michael) of Halfmoon, NY; Deborah DuBois of Clifton Park, NY and Rebecca DuBois of Halfmoon, NY; his grandchildren: Vanessa Costello (Emily McKenna) of Halfmoon, NY and Joseph Costello (Monica) of Colonie, NY and his great-grandchildren, Mason Costello and Paisley Costello of Colonie, NY. He was predeceased by his only sibling, Barbara (DuBois) McPhillips of Montgomery, NY. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Bob was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his entire family and all those that knew him.

His family would like to especially thank Dr. Bernstein from Capital Cardiology for providing his trusted care & treatment since 1989, the wonderful staff of nurses and doctors at the St. Peter’s Hospital Cardiac Care and Palliative Care Units and the Community Hospice of Saratoga County for providing outstanding care.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 am at the funeral home followed by Military honors at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion Mohawk Post 1450, 275 Grooms Road, Halfmoon, NY 12065.
