Robert Bloodgood Obituary

WESTMERE - Robert F. Bloodgood 89, of Westmere, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 20th after a brave battle with Parkinson’s disease.  His family was by his side and this had been his wish.

Bob was born on October 3rd, 1928 in Cortland, NY. Son of Emmett and Ada, mischievous brother of Lynn (Patricia), and the late Pete, John and Margaret. Bob served in the Marine Corp from 1952-1954 and then went to work for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for the next 40 years. He was proud to be the chauffeur to commissioners and the champion of wildlife and the environment.  After retiring, he took a job caring for Guilderland’s town parks for another 20 years. Bob was active with many organizations including the VFW where he served as Commander of the Albany County Council from 1992-93, a committee member of the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, and long-time peewee coach of the Pine Bush Little League Orioles.  He was most dedicated to the Westmere Fire Department where he was an active volunteer firefighter for as long as his health would allow. He continued to serve loyally and holds the honor of being a 52 year life member.

Bob was an avid hunter, though he rarely brought home a deer. He loved camping, teasing, poop emojis and Nanny (not necessarily in that order). His family was his world and his friends became his family. He leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Dot, his daughter Penny and his son Bill (Laurie). His grandchildren, Kate, Dan, and Shannon and great grandson Lucas were the lights of his life. He also leaves behind more friends than we could ever mention, who’s constant kindness and support gave him great comfort in his last days. Among those, was his loyal caretaker and dear friend Kenny.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate and remember Bob on Sunday from 4-7pm at the Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie. Funeral services will be Monday morning at 10:15am at the funeral home with Interment immediately following at Saratoga VA National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Westmere Fire Department or to his beloved Tawasentha Park in Guilderland.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, visit www.CannonFuneral.com
