Rev. Bruce K. Cornwell

Schenectady - On October 18, 2023, the Reverend Bruce K. Cornwell, entered eternal peace surrounded by the love of his wife Sandy and sons Brendan (Sara Zoe Patterson) and Matthew (Lori).

Over the past 34 years, Bruce pastored the Community Reformed Church of Colonie with love and grace. He served the Albany Classis, Regional Synod of Albany, and the Reformed Church in America in many capacities including the promotion of Room for All and the development of the School of Ministry. Over the many years, he has intertwined drama throughout his worship and beyond. As a playwright and lyrist his full lengths works of “Weep Jeremiah” and “The Second Coming: the ministry of Shaker founder Ann Lee,” were produced locally.

After graduating from the University of Iowa, his drama and writing skills were honed during his first career at Walden School and Walden Theatre. As a teacher and mentor, he guided his many students onto the paths of success and fulfillment. After being called to ministry, Bruce attended Union Theological Seminary (NYC) with the support of Marble Collegiate Church.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Florence. Born into a military family, Bruce and brother Mark lived in numerous locales including Turkey and Thailand and finally settled in New Jersey. There he met his partner in life, his high school sweetheart Sandy and they have been an inseparable team ever since. Together they enjoyed family, friends, baking pies, travel, and gardening.

The Celebration of Life will be held on October 28 at 11 am at the Community Reformed Church, 701 Sand Creek Road, Colonie, NY. All are welcome to attend. If you wish to attend virtually, please contact the church office (528-869-5589) for Zoom information.

The Cornwells are thankful for all the support and prayers received from their church family and beyond.
