Norman Carlson Obituary

Niskayuna - Norman R. “Norm” Carlson passed away Monday Morning March 15, 2021.

He was 69.

Born on November 28, 1951 in Bassett, Nebraska, he was the son of Raymond and Margaret (Jamison) Carlson.

Norm grew up in Bassett, NE and was a graduate of Rock County High School.

After high school, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and earned a degree in Nursing.  In 1975, he set out to San Francisco where he worked as a Registered Nurse. While in San Francisco he met a tile installer and learned the trade.

Installing tile soon became his passion and hence “The Tile Man” was established.

Norm worked as a tile installer and business owner in San Francisco for seven years.  In 1985, he moved to upstate New York where he met his future wife Joann Rybitski.

Norm and Joann wed on April 8th, 1988.  They settled in Niskayuna and raised their family. Together, they owned and operated The Tile Man, a family business which will continue with Joann, son Lucas and their dedicated employees.

Norm had a knack for Interior Design. He also enjoyed scrapbooking, outings to casinos, or just talking business.  Most important, he enjoyed the love of his family.

Besides his parents, his sister Patricia Carlson and a brother Rodney Carlson all passed before him.

He leaves his loving wife Joann Carlson, son Lucas and his fiancée Michaela, and daughter Taylor Carlson all of Niskayuna as well as a sister Jeanie Carlson of Ainsworth, Nebraska and in-laws Joseph and Bernadette Rybitski.

Per the request of the family, all services and burial at Memory Gardens will be private.
