Nicholas Barr Obituary

ALBANY – Nicholas Easton Barr, 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at

Riverside Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Nick was born in West Haven, CT and was the son of the late Charles and Myrtle Kennedy Barr. Nick attended Hamden Hall and Mount Hermon, received his Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from New York University, and later earned an M.S. in Computer Science from SUNY Albany. He was a civil engineer with New York State.

Nick’s greatest love was music, especially bluegrass, and he played many instruments, including the fiddle, guitar, banjo, bass, and mandolin. He attended numerous bluegrass festivals across the country and worked as an emcee, stage manager, and performer at many of them. Nick had an extensive collection of vinyl records, and for two decades, he hosted a bluegrass radio show on WAMC.

Nick loved the Adirondacks. He had a camp “Rocky Top” and a community at Great Sacandaga Lake where he spent many happy summer days.

Nick was predeceased by his life partner, Stephanie “Mickey” Bagley. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Barr of Northampton, Mass., brother William Kennedy Barr of West Haven, CT, nephew James Peckham and nieces Emily and Alexandra “Ace” Peckham, and five great-nephews and -nieces.
