GUILDERLAND – Manfred “Monty” Gundermann, 66, of Guilderland passed away on Sunday August 02, 2020 at Community Hospice Inn, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Wilhelm and Ingeborg Gundermann and was also raised by his beloved Oma Berta Gundermann. Monty drove a tow truck on the FDR Drive in New York City for many years. More recently, he was a customer service representative at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Colonie. His kind and genuine demeanor made people feel at ease and comfortable. Monty was friendly, funny and had a quick wit. He was loved by all who knew him and a friend to many.
Monty had a great love of fishing that he shared with his son and many of his friends. If he ever drove by a lake, Monty was quick to pull over and throw in a line and see what he could catch. After he retired, when he wasn't fishing, you could find him “cleaning” the garage while the family dog Sandy rolled around on the lawn. He was so proud watching Ryan compete at many Tae Kwon Do tournaments, and watching him train at Guilderland Marital Arts.
Monty is the beloved husband of Zulie Gundermann and the devoted father of Ryan Gundermann. He is the brother of Dietmar (Lisa) Gundermann and the brother in law of Bonnie Kahn and Dora Dalgoutte. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Monty’s life on Friday evening at 6:00 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie. Face masks and social distancing will be required. Live streaming of the service is available by visiting the funeral home website.
