Mary Ann Malkiewicz Obituary

COLONIE - Maryann Malkiewicz, 85 of Colonie, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020. She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Theresa Hayes.

She was predeceased in 2004 by her husband Raymond Malkiewicz. Maryann is the beloved mother of Sue (Bob) Carusone, John Malkiewicz (Theresa Dudek), and James (Deborah) Malkiewicz. She is the devoted Gram to Matthew (Aleks), Marcus (Angelina), Brian (Katelyn), Lydia, Louis, Morgan, Dylan, and Jake. Great grandmother of Oliver, Theo, and the late Caden. She is also survived by her dear family members, Bruce & Nancy Quay, Patti Manuli, Michael Mina, Natalie Applebee, Dominic & Cele Formassano, George & Carol Seely, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews in New Jersey and Warrensburg.

Maryann graduated from Nott Terrace High School and continued her education at Albany Medical Center, leading to a career as a Medical Laboratory Technician. After working for a number of private laboratories, Maryann found rewarding and sustained work at the former St. Clare’s Hospital. She loved St. Clare’s and her coworkers. Her career spanned 50 years.

Maryann met her husband, Raymond, while camping with her family in the Adirondacks, Raymond worked as a Forest Ranger. Married in 1953, they started a family shortly thereafter; with Susan, John, and James all born in the short span of three years. In 1960 a home and acreage were purchased, and this would become Ray-Mar Tree Farm, a choose and cut Christmas Tree Farm still active today. The farm was perfect for Raymond’s love of arboriculture, Maryann’s love of growing flowers’ and endless hours of adventures for their children. Over time the farm became a great gathering place, as neighbor’s children were always welcomed to join the game of the day. Memorial Day celebrations took place for over thirty years where all were welcome and Raymond and Maryann thoroughly enjoyed the company of their guests.

Maryann was active in the Stanford Heights Ladies Auxiliary, St. Paul the Apostle Church, Colonie Senior’s and she supported many charitable organizations. Maryann’s ability to share and give was nearly limitless. She loved God, displayed the American Flag, and decorated her home for every Holiday. She shared many phone calls and letters to friends, loved the New York Yankees and most of all cherished her large and extended family.
