Joseph Sheehan Obituary

VOORHEESVILLE – Joseph E. Sheehan, 79, of Voorheesville, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Albany on August 12, 1944, he was the son of the late Edmund J. and Helen R. Sheehan. After graduating from Vincentian Institute in 1961, he served in the US Air Force until 1966. Following the Air Force, Joe worked at New York Telephone as a Technician until retirement.

Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife and soulmate, Janet Heyer Sheehan. For over 30 years they enjoyed vacations to Key West, Las Vegas and St. Maarten, summers at their camp on Thompson’s Lake and the many social gatherings with family and friends.

An avid photographer, Joe always had a camera ready to capture the beauty in nature and wildlife. Several of his photos were published in the Albany Times Union.

Joe was a member of the Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club and the Voorheesville American Legion. He looked forward to the annual Voorheesville Memorial Day parade and day long festivities.

In addition to his wife Jan, Joe was predeceased by his brothers Paul and Richard Sheehan, and his feathered friends Bertie (Cockatiel) and Webster (African grey parrot).

Joe is survived by his brother James (Kelli) Sheehan and his special niece Dawn Heyer. He is the brother-in-law of Jeannie Sheehan and Robert (Carol) Heyer. He is the lifelong friend of Wayne Morehouse. Also surviving are nieces and nephews James, Michael, Daniel, Christine and Patricia. He will be missed by his numerous friends and gracious neighbors.
