John Miller, Jr. Obituary

John A. Miller Jr.,77, passed away at home on April 29, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer.

John was born in Albany NY to Madlyne and John A. Miller Sr. He grew up in West Albany and attended South Colonie Schools. He then volunteered to serve his country, enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran, having been in active combat there.

Following his military service, he worked for Girvin Trucking for many years before starting his own businesses. He was the previous owner of Albany Street Garage and Miller Trucking Company, hauling heavy construction equipment. He was a lifelong outdoorsman who liked nothing more than fishing, hunting,camping and snowmobiling. He particularly enjoyed his retirement time at his camp on Lake Champlain. He was also a lifelong Mets fan, following in his father’s footsteps.

He will be long remembered for the many kindnesses he did for so many. He was always willing to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Colonie and his daughter Cheryl (Brad) Privett, of Schaghticoke. He is also survived by his sisters Karan Kross of New Port Richey Fl., Grace (Ken) Wakeman of Essex Vt., Valorie (Michael) Colligan of Ballston Lake, Christine Newell of Colonie, Sally Miller of Colonie, and his brother Peter Miller (Marlana) of Clifton Park. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm Wednesday, May 3 at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie. Calling hours will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Patriot Flight,Inc., PO Box 13776, Albany NY 12212. It is an all-volunteer organization created to honor all American Veterans for their sacrifices. John was proud to have been one of their honorees.
