H. Richard "Dick" Peters Obituary

COLONIE – H. Richard “Dick” Peters, 82, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Monday January 29, 2024, at Samaritan Hospital.

He was born in Ashland, Wisconsin and was the son of the late Herman F. and Hilma W. Peters.  He spent his childhood years on land homesteaded by his grandfather, Thomas Larson, at Meder Lake south of Mellen, WI.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin in 1964 and his Masters of Science with Advanced Study of Nuclear Engineering at Pennsylvania State in 1966.  He married Bridget O’Donahue, his soul mate, in 1962 and they had three daughters, Renae, Robin and Melonie.

Dick worked at Knolls Atomic Power Lab for more than 35 years as a Nuclear Engineer.  He was a problem solver and inventor.   Some of his work was published in the book, “Zirconium in the Nuclear Industry” Sixth International Symposium.

He retired in 2006 and purchased a RV with his wife.  They enjoyed trips to visit family in Wisconsin and S. Carolina.  They were also members of Sams Club RV Group.  His passion was golf and he played often.  He also loved to bowl and was on 3 leagues.  Dick was a long-standing member of Christ Church Episcopal in Schenectady, NY for more than 30 years where he served in many capacities over the years.

He was the rock of the family and was an excellent example of unconditional love.  He was surrounded by children and grandchildren during his last days and was able to speak with all who were present; encouraging them to get grounded in a local church and put God first in their lives.

Dick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Agnes “Bridget” Peters and his grandson, Vincent Salerno, II.

He is the devoted father of Renae Salerno of Schenectady, Robin Klink of Guilderland and Melonie (Robert) Pratt of Schenectady. Grandfather of Jamie (Nucha) and Daniel (Alicia) Salerno, Heather Kaminsky (Nick) Zaccor, Joshua (Megan) and Andrew Kaminsky, Kaitlin and Jacob (Melise) Klink; Great grandfather of Natalie and Vincent Salerno, III. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
