Candeloro "Joe" Rao Obituary

SLINGERLANDS – Candeloro “Joe” Rao, 90, of Slingerlands, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, Guilderland. Born in Albany, September 18, 1930, he was the son of the late Natale and Guiseppina (Cotugno) Rao.

Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a proud veteran. He was a fifty year member of the Local 7 Plumbers & Steamfitters Union and worked with Campito Plumbing & Heating throughout his career. If you had a plumbing problem, Joe was the go-to person for many.  Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially enjoying a meal, cup of coffee or a good movie. He could always be seen traveling around town in his pickup truck, with his dog “Maverick” right beside him. Joe had a great love for his pets. He was often seen working on his property, riding his tractor and gardening. Joe’s smile and nod will never be forgotten.

Survivors include two sisters, Anna DiSanto of Albany, and Patricia Blair of Slingerlands; and one brother, Anthony Rao of Slingerlands. Joe is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Theresa Schryver and Mary Valenti. Funeral services will be private. Interment, St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, New York 12204.
