Altamont – William Marinus Hoogkamp, 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Bill was born on Valentine’s Day in 1954 to the late Richard and Elaine (Foley) Hoogkamp.
He grew up in the Colonie area and was a 1972 graduate of Colonie High School. After graduation he persued a career as an electrician and started his own business in 1992 called Century Electric.
He met his wife Linda in 1975 at Kurver Cream in Colonie. They married in 1977 and have enjoyed almost 49 wonderful years together.
Bill enjoyed fishing, camping in Petersburg, golf and motorcycle riding. He was a long-time member of the American Legion Riders, Post #977 in Altamont. He was also a volunteer member of the Altamont Fire Department where he was a past Assistant Chief and past President. Bill was the life of the party and the party wasn’t over until he was dancing on a table!
He is predeceased by his brother Brian, brothers in-law Bruce Javers and Bruce Malacek, and his in-laws Roy and Joan LaDuke.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Linda, his children Jeremy Hoogkamp, Nicole (Frank Marsh) Hoogkamp and his grandson and namesake who he adored William Duke Hoogkamp. His siblings Richard (Marcia) Hoogkamp, Karen (the late Brian) Hoogkamp, Gail Lockwood, Faith Javers, Pamela Hoogkamp, Lori (Karl) Coté and Brother in-law Brian LaDuke.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 12, 2026 from 4pm to 7pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. A Prayer service will be offered on Wednesday at 10am at the funeral home with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie.
