Latham -William H. “Bill” Hayes V, devoted husband, accomplished musician, teacher, and faithful servant of God, entered eternal rest on August 29, 2025 at the age of 70, following a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Bill graduated in 1973 from St. Louis University High School, and earned a dual degree in Musical Composition and Mathematics from Webster University, where he was selected for a Gaslight Square residency. It was at Webster where he met the love of his life, Maureen (McMahon) Hayes. Their marriage and ministry spanned 48 years.
Bill performed trumpet with Wally Lang and the Rhythm Kings and other bands across St. Louis. There, Bill and Maureen founded Hayes Music Studio which grew into more than 40 years of teaching and recording services.
Bill served as music minister at St. Ambrose Church in Latham (1992–2002) and The Church of St. Clare in Colonie, until his retirement in 2019. He continued to compose and catalog works, write musical essays for the St. Ambrose community, and teach private lessons until his death.
His published liturgical works earned national recognition, including Unity Awards for “I Am The Resurrection” (2004) and “Living” (2005), along with other nominations.
Together, Bill and Maureen co-hosted the international program“On The Journey”, and were active in the Catholic Association of Music.
Bill will be remembered for his deep faith, love of family, and the countless lives he touched through teaching and song.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen; his children, Christopher (Amanda Rotondo) and Kelly Mollica (Andrew); grandchildren Benjamin, Abigail, Jack, Lily, and Hannah; sister Patricia Hayes; niece Khalen Cruden and nephews Craig Cruden, Sean McMahon, and Terrence Schene.
Calling hours will be held at St. Ambrose Church, Latham, on Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 9am-11am, directly followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Rite of Committal and interment will follow at St Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford. Family and friends are invited to join in prayer and thanksgiving.
