William “Dale” Haller, 72, of Colonie, passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Born April 14, 1953, in Albany, he was the son of the late Andrew W. Haller and Joan M. (Dale) Haller.
Dale graduated from Bishop Gibbons High School, and in his younger years spent sixteen years working as a cook at his family’s Wayside Inn in Lake George. Those summers created many special memories spent together with cousins and family. He loved to cook and was known to be very good at it.
In recent years Dale worked as a groundskeeper at Colonie Golf Course, where he took great pride in caring for the “Green 9.” His dedication to his work and the friendships he formed there meant a great deal to him, and he will be deeply missed by Dave Gallagher and the maintenance and grounds crew.
Dale enjoyed spending time with friends and had a dry sense of humor that those who knew him came to appreciate well. He enjoyed playing pool, bowling, darts, and basketball, and was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.
He is survived by his brothers, Michael (Sue) Haller of Colonie, David (Barbara) Haller of Latham; his sons, Kevin (Hannah) Haller of Warrensburg, and Daniel Haller of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also survived by Kevin and Daniel’s mother, Kathleen Haller of Warrensburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dale was predeceased by his brothers, Robert Haller and Andrew Haller Jr.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to Dale’s friends at Joe’s Tavern, especially Tay, Ed, and Kellie, for the friendship and kindness they shared with him over the years. They are also grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Neurology Unit at Albany Medical Center for the care and compassion shown during his final month.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
Dale will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty to friends, and the pride he took in his work.
