Colonie - Susan E. Rooney, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, at the age of 63.
Sue grew up in the village of Colonie, where she developed a deep appreciation for community and service that remained with her throughout her life. She dedicated nearly 30 years as a beloved school bus driver, faithfully transporting generations of students with kindness, patience, and a warm smile. Known to many simply as “Miss Sue,” she was a familiar and comforting presence whose care extended far beyond the driver’s seat. Her commitment and compassion left a lasting impression on countless families and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Susan lived her life guided by a strong and unwavering faith. Her faith was not only something she held in her heart, but something she lived out daily through love, kindness, and generosity toward all she encountered. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for, often placing the needs of others before her own.
As a wife, mother, and Bamma, Susan was the steady foundation of her family—offering comfort, strength, and unconditional love. To her siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family, she was a source of wisdom, warmth, and encouragement. To her friends, she was loyal, compassionate, and always ready with a listening ear or helping hand.
Susan’s life was a quiet testimony to love in action. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the faith she shared, the example she set through her generosity of spirit and her gratitude for the simplest of things in life.
She is survived by her husband Sean M. Rooney; her children Jennifer (Joseph) Hufland, Allison (Mitch) Tombs and Michael (Brittany) Westfall. She is the cherished Bamma of Carter, Chase, Camden, Logan, Kinley, Roman, Ryder, and Rhegan. Sue is the sister of Larry (Nancy) Hooley, Timothy Hooley, James Hooley, Nancy Lucarelli, Patti (Sam) Vardaro and the late Jack Hooley (Cathy survives).
