Guilderland - Stephen Haggerty, 71, passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 24, 1954, in Albany, New York, Stephen was the son of Angela (Prior) and Robert Haggerty, and the third of nine children. He was a graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School, where he excelled in athletics and proudly served as quarterback of the football team.

Stephen had a lifelong love of sports. He enjoyed playing golf and softball and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees. He was also a life member of the McKownville Fire Department, where he maintained a strong connection to his community and fellow firefighters.

He cherished time spent with family, especially summers in Cape Cod, with many fond memories made at Popponesset Beach. Above all, Stephen was a devoted grandfather who found great joy in watching his grandchildren grow. He lit up when speaking about their accomplishments and the pride he felt in each of them.

Stephen was predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Eileen, and his son, William.

He is survived by his sons, Stephen (Danai) and Daniel (Jenna); and his cherished grandchildren, Alivia, Mikaela, Henley, Emerson, and Poppy. He is also survived by his siblings: Robert (Gail), Timothy (Kim), Chris (Patti), Jim (Kristin), and Mike (Lori) Haggerty, as well as Joan Noonan, Patty (Mark) Varno, and Beth (Mike) Sontz. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Stephen will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to his community, and the joy he found in the simple moments of life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his compassionate caregivers Ty, Bebi, and Wadira, whose kindness and support brought comfort and dignity to Stephen in his final days.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 12:00 at Christ the King Church, Westmere. Visitation will be prior to the Mass from 10:30 to 12:00 at the Church.
