Latham – Stelios Baltis, 80, of Latham, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12,2025 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
The youngest of four, he was born in Theva, Greece, raised in Thessaloniri and was the son of the late Basilios and Hariklia Baltis. Stelios served on the Paralos Hellenic in the Greek Navy and then the Merchant Marines for several years. He immigrated to the United States in 1968. He earned his citizenship in 1976 as USA celebrated it’s Bicentennial. Stelios became a 1st Class electrician working alongside his brother Peter at Baltis Electric Company. He later was foreman for Dwight Electric and IBEW 236 for many years.
He married Evelyn Mary Palmer in 1987 at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady. Stelios shared his unselfish devotion to his family and friends, always offering his time and expertise to those in need.
He is survived by his beloved wife Evelyn Mary Baltis. A loving and dedicated father, the joy of his life was raising his two wonderful children, Theodore Basil Baltis and Stephanie Roseanne Holmes. He is the grandfather of Maya Autumn Holmes. Stelios is the brother of Peter (Kathy) Baltis and the late Theodore (Glikeria survives) Baltis and the late John (Jeanne) Petalas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 11:00 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am at the Church. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, (www.Dana-Farber.org).
