Listen to Obituary

Salvatore Joseph D’Amore, 89, entered into eternal life on October 3, 2026. He was born on April 30, 1937 to Joseph D’Amore and Pauline Russo D’Amore in Johnstown, NY. After attending Catholic school for several years, Sal transferred to Johnstown High School, and graduated from there in 1954. Also, in his early years, starting at age 13, Sal worked for Sarris Bros Drive Ins until age 19. Then, in 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.

Upon his discharge from the Air Force in January 1960, Sal was employed with D.A. Collins Construction Company as a field office manager for 20 years. Then, in 1980, he took the job of Corporate Secretary for D.A. Collins and Co., Inc., a local investment firm, from which he retired in 1996.

For one year following retirement, Sal cherished his time babysitting his first two grandchildren with the true love of his life, Mary. One year of this “job” built memories of a lifetime.

In 1997, Sal once again began working, this time for his great friend, the Honorable Anthony Cardona. Sal ran courtroom activities for the Appellate Division of the NYS Supreme Court, from which he officially retired in 2013.

Sal loved his sports. He was an avid New York Mets and New York Giants fan, and he also enjoyed golfing. Sal and his family were proud to take part in forming a semi pro football team in Johnstown, the Glove City Colonials.

Sal was also a very proud Italian American. He was a member of the West Albany Italian Benevolent Society for over 40 years holding positions as President and Board Chairman. He also created the post of Chaplain in which he served for over 20 years. Sal was an original committee member of the Columbus Day parade and festival in Albany, as well as a member of the Sons of Italy.

Sal was a man of faith and gave back to his church, Christ Our Light. He served many years as an ambassador and Vice President of Christ Our Light Seniors. He attended daily mass and enjoyed after mass coffee with his friends.

Sal was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Morrell D’Amore; father Joseph D’Amore, Sr.; mother Pauline D’Amore; brothers Joseph D’Amore, Jr. and Nunzio D’Amore; mother and father-in-law Connie and Nicholas Morrell, Sr.; sisters-in-law Susan and Karol D’Amore; and brothers-in-law Andrew Gigliotti and Nicholas Morrell, Jr.

Sal is survived by his children Marc (Lisa) D’Amore, Yvette Austin and Stephanie (Jeremy) Kotar; cherished grandchildren Joshua (Katherine) Austin, Jarred (Rocio) Austin and Garrett Kotar; precious great-granddaughter Calia Rose Austin, as well as his soon to be second great-granddaughter who will enter the world in a few short months; and his siblings James D’Amore, Carmelo D’Amore and Mary Cassaro. Sal is also survived by in-laws Frances Morrell, Theresa

Gigliotti, and James (Kathleen) Morrell; many cousins, nieces, nephews; and his dear friend Barbara Clinton.

Relataves and friends are invited to visit with Sal’s family on Monday October 12, 2026, from 10am to noon at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, to be followed by a funeral mass. The Rite of Interment will immediately follow the mass at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
