Colonie

Listen to Obituary

Michelle Loretta Welch, of Colonie, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026, leaving behind family, friends, and so many others whose lives were made brighter simply because they knew her.

Born to the late Martin J. Welch Jr. and Dorothy (Welter) Welch, Michelle was a 1988 graduate of Colonie Central High School. She went on to spend 35 years doing something she truly loved, working as a hairdresser at the JCPenney salon in Latham and later in Clifton Park. For Michelle, it was never just a job. She loved her customers, the conversations, the laughter, and the friendships that grew over the years. Many of the people who sat in her chair became so much more than customers; they became friends. Her work was a big part of who she was, and she took tremendous pride in it.

If you knew Michelle, you knew she had a personality all her own. She was funny, spirited, strong-willed, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She had a way of making people laugh and bringing life into a room. She enjoyed making memories, sharing stories, and spending time with the people who meant the most to her.

Michelle found happiness in the things that made everyday life special. She loved cooking and sharing good food, listening to music, being around animals, and tending to her clients and making people feel good about themselves. In her younger years, she loved to dance. And anyone who knew Michelle knew about her bright red Dodge Charger. It was more than just a car; it was a reflection of her personality — bold, beautiful, and impossible to overlook.

Above all, Michelle loved her family and friends. She treasured the people in her life and the moments spent together, knowing that often the simplest things become the memories we hold closest.

Michelle was a brave, strong, and courageous fighter. She faced life's challenges with a determination and strength that those who loved her will never forget. Even through difficult times, she remained someone whose spirit, humor, and personality left a lasting impression.

Michelle is survived by her beloved sister, Maureen (Neal) Whitcomb, along with many loving cousins, dear friends, and neighbors.

There are some people who leave a little piece of themselves with everyone they meet, and Michelle was one of those people. She will be remembered in the laughter she shared, the friendships she made, the meals she cooked, the music she loved, and all the little moments that made her uniquely Michelle.

She was loved more than words can express and will be missed more than words can ever say. Though she is no longer here, the memories, stories, laughter, and love she leaves behind will remain in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Rest peacefully, Michelle. We know you will be watching over us. You will never be forgotten.
