Niskayuna - Lorene Zabin, 96, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. She was born on April 19, 1930 in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of the late John Mancina and Mary Yezzi. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Barton B Zabin and her only sibling, Dolores Davis. Lorene graduated from Vincentian Institute and attended Mildred Elley College. She was first and foremost a mom and homemaker, a great cook and a fantastic baker who loved entertaining and socializing. She raised her four children in eleven homes across six states and somehow always managed to create a beautiful home and strong connection to each new community despite the challenges that ensued from all the moves.
Family was paramount and she was immensely proud and connected to her large Italian family, maintaining special relationships with all her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandchildren throughout her life. Lorene is survived by her four children: Barbara Dickson (Eric), Bart Zabin (Lisa), Bonnie Nicolosi (Carl) and Tim Zabin (Tracy); her eight grandchildren: James, Julia, Christopher, Laura, Maria, Jonathan, Thomas and Blaze; and three great-grandchildren: Jack, Claire and Astra. After moving back to upstate NY in the late 70’s Lorene came to love the town of Niskayuna and she was passionate about her involvement in the community. She served as the town’s Deputy Supervisor from 1988-1997. She will be remembered as a strong, spirited, stylish woman who was fun-loving and outgoing. She was outspoken and loved to help and engage with anyone and everyone.
Our family wishes to acknowledge and extend our heartfelt thanks to Jocelyn, Gyandai, Lisa & Mary for the wonderful care and kindness they showed to Mom.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 18th at 10 am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha on Union Street. Interment will be private at the Saratoga National Cemetery. For those who wish to remember Lorene please make a donation to a local charity of your choice in her memory or simply extend an offer of kindness to someone in need.
