COLONIE - L. David Suits, 80, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Friday, April, 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Little Falls, NY and was the son of the late Harry B. and Marion Glave Suits. Dave was a graduate of Clarkson University where he earned his Masters degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed with New York State Department of Transportation for thirty-five years. Throughout his professional career Dave was also a member of the American Society of Testing Materials and the Transportation Research Board, research and standards organizations. He provided expertise in the field of geotextiles used in civil engineering construction. He was recognized for his contributions, receiving multiple awards including being included in Marquis Who’s Who. Dave was a lay leader at Pine Grove United Methodist Church. He was a longtime volunteer at Skye Farm Camp. One of his great joys in life was spending time with his family at their camp in Raquette Lake, NY. In recent years he became an active volunteer in the preservation efforts at Great Camp Sagamore in Raquette Lake. He was an active member of the Lisha Kill Seniors.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Debra A. Handy Suits. He is the devoted father of Daniel D. (Christine) Suits II, Dana M. (Brian) McCrea, Diana L. (Rebekah Hinckley) Suits and the late Danae Suits (Asaf Fabbi survives). He is the brother of Eleanor (Richard) Dudrak. Dave is the grandfather of Anthony Suits. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 12 noon at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Visitation will be Friday morning from 10 am to 12 noon at the funeral home.
