Krystyna “Krysia” Malczewski, 75, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026 after a brief illness. Born on April 23, 1951, in Taras, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Janina (Kulawiak) Synowiec and Franciszek Kulawiak.
Krystyna immigrated to the US with her husband and daughter in the 1980s, making Albany her home. Hard-working and resilient, she worked for SUNY Albany for many years while providing a home with warmth and care for her three daughters who were her greatest pride and joy. Krysia enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, listening to music, taking walks and being in nature. She was kind and generous and her home was open to everyone. She was an excellent cook. Friends and family enjoyed her homemade meals, hospitality and company. She loved animals, sometimes more than people. After retirement, she took care of the neighborhood stray cats, birds and other critters that needed a refuge, often feeding them a variety of cookies. She was full of life and often described as spunky and a spitfire, ready with a joke and prone to breaking into a song.
She is lovingly remembered by her siblings Tadeusz (Christina) Kulawiak and Halina Adamczak, her daughters Joanna Kaufman (Brian), Maja Tusch (Jason), Olivia Malczewski, her grandchildren Adam and Grace, cousins, several nieces and great nieces.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 4 pm - 6 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave, Albany, NY. All are welcome to attend and honor her memory.
