John R Miller Jr, 93, died peacefully in his sleep at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, NY on May 18, 2026. John and his wife, Carolyn, had moved to this wonderful facility in the Fall of

2024 to be closer to their daughter and her family. Born in Somerset, PA on August

16, 1932, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Sands) Miller. He was preceded in death by his son Dane Miller and sisters, Inez and Patricia.

John was a graduate of Somerset High School, where he starred in Football and Track. He served as a Sargent in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany during the Koren Conflict.

He married Carolyn Holsopple on July 1 st 1955, and after nearly 71 years of marriage, she deeply misses having him by her side.

After the service John attended Pennsylvania Game Commission School. Early in his career they lived in Titusville and Oil City PA before settling in Meadville in 1962. They moved inl 965 to the house he built on Gable Hill where they lived until they moved to New York.

He was a Game Protector for over 30 years. He retired as the Game Land Manager for NW PA. The family led a unique life raising many orphaned animals over the years. It was not unusual to visit the Millers and have a squirrel, skunk, or raccoon to greet you. He passed on his love of nature to his children and grandchildren.

They enjoyed traveling, camping, golf, canoeing and skiing, or anything outdoors. John and Carolyn were active members of the First Christian Church in Meadville. He was a 32 Degree Mason and belonged to the Elks and Meadville Ski Club. In addition to Carolyn, he will be missed by his daughter Joyce (Steve) Swanson, four grandchildren, Erik (Stephanie) Swanson, Jenna (Dan), Haggerty, Nicole Miller Morrison, Justin (Jessica) Miller, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, perhaps memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society or to a charity of your choice. He is remembered as an incredible person, a wonderful storyteller, and truly a fun person to be with.
