Schenectady - Jean Marilyn (Gagne) Devenpeck, aged 91, died peacefully Tuesday, October 21, 2025, after a long illness.

Jean was born in Amsterdam, NY, the daughter of Edward and Geneve (Davis) Gagne, who predeceased her, along with her sister, Carol Lunden.

She married the love of her life, David Devenpeck, on February 15. 1953 and was predeceased by him. Together they raised three children, Chris (Judy Cogan), Dana (Debbie Pettersen) and Linda (Mark Rose) and grandparented 7 beloved children, Derek (Sofia), Danielle (Richard), Erik, Carla (Ben), Deven (Denise), Marissa, and Bridget. In addition, Jean had two beautiful great grandchildren, Rosie and Lily. She is also survived by her best friend and sister-in-law, Carla Brind.

The primary focus of Jean’s life was being a mother and homemaker, but she did work outside the home at the Carl Company, the Boston Store and as an Avon representative for many years.

She loved sewing and quilting and made gorgeous, personalized quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Grenada in the West Indies, canoeing and dancing. She and David used to cut a rug regularly wherever there was live music to be found.

Jean spent summers at the family camp at Caroga Lake in the Adirondacks, where she enjoyed long walks, swimming and nurturing her Hosta garden, where she proudly grew over 40 varieties. Church and her faith were very important to her, and she was a regular participant in the hymn sings and services at the Caroga Lake Chapel.

Jean’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center for the wonderful, compassionate care they gave our mother.

Funeral Services were private.

Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Caroga Lake Chapel, 106 Chapel Road, Caroga Lake, NY 12032. To leave a message of condolence for the family, visit www.CannonFuneral.com
