James V. McCauley Sr.

James V. “Jim” McCauley, Sr., 88, of Galway, New York, passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospice Inpatient Unit on October 23, 2026, with his wife by his bedside.

Born on February 12, 1938, in Troy, New York, Jim was the son of Stephen James McCauley and Barbara Millard McCauley.

He graduated from Lansingburgh High School and earned a degree in Business Administration from Albany Business College.

After a varied career, Jim retired in January 2004, from his position as a Waste Treatment Operator at SI Group’s Rotterdam Junction facility.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Harrington McCauley; his children, Scott McCauley (Suzanne), Hollie King (Mark), James McCauley, and Thomas McCauley (Nicole); and his stepchildren, Jennifer Carusone (Craig), Maria Oakden (Rob), and Joseph Carusone. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bailey, Maddie, Jake, Kyla, Donovan, Noah, Emma, Maxwell, Devon, Tyler, and Bentley, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Jeff, and his siblings, Charles, Marylin, and Stephen.

Jim will be remembered with love by family and friends, who will cherish the memories they shared with him. He especially enjoyed boating with his sons on the Great Sacandaga and, in his younger days, snowmobiling and jet skiing. An avid fisherman and bowler, he also loved watching football on television and always rooted for his favorite team, the New York Giants.

Jim was very proud of his Irish ancestry and was thrilled to visit Ireland with his wife, Ann, in 2010. Their favorite trip was a two-week Alaskan cruise in 2008. From the time they met until he could no longer make the trip, Jim and Ann also vacationed every year in Dennisport, Cape Cod.

Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 2113 East St., Galway, NY, on October 31 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Paul McDonald officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Galway.
