Francis Robert Sheehan – better known as Bob – passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, N.Y. He was 76 years young.
An Albany native born on December 26, 1948, to the late Francis and Joan Sheehan, Bob’s first love was the sea. He joined the United States Coast Guard and proudly served as a Radioman on the Mallow 365 ship during the Vietnam War - first stationed in Point Vicente and later Guam. Bob loved the water, and his country – and part of him wished he’d made a lifelong career of it.
Bob left the Coast Guard and joined his father’s company, Crest, Inc., which he soon took over as President. After 25 years in the family business, Bob spent the next decade building a career in banking at Catskill Savings Bank and then acting as Vice President of Branch Operations at The Bank of Greene County until he retired.
Known for his dry humor, quick wit, and encyclopedic memory, Bob was a human search engine long before Google existed. His daughter even drinks her morning coffee from a mug that reads: “I don’t need Google… My father knows everything.” And for the most part - he did. On the rare occasions he didn’t, you’d find him poring over YouTube tutorials or reading deep-dive articles, determined to learn, fix, or figure it out himself. Whether it was a broken grill, a leaky toilet, or tech trouble, Bob was the one everyone called - and he always answered.
He was an avid golfer, a true patriot, a voracious reader, and a skilled conversationalist who loved discussing current events. As a lifelong fan of the New York Giants and the New York Rangers, he spent a lot of years screaming things like “shoot the puck!” at the television – and even though his beloved teams rarely won, he kept on cheering.
Through life’s challenges, Bob faced everything with a smile and an unwavering determination to “git r done.” He rarely complained, never wanted to burden anyone, and always found a way to lighten the moment - even in the toughest times.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 52 years, Cheryl (Darrah) Sheehan, who stood by his side through life’s every season, and was with him to the very end. He also leaves behind his three children: F. Robert Sheehan and his wife Nadine; Corinne (Sheehan) Federici and her husband David; and Eva Claramonte and her husband David Ross; as well as his seven grandchildren: Jack, West, Malcolm, Nico, and Kai Sheehan, and Dylan and Tyler Federici. He is also survived by his siblings: Cindy (Sheehan) Kelleher and her husband William, Stephen Sheehan, and Gregg Sheehan.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 20th from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Saint Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Road, Schenectady, N.Y., followed immediately by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will conclude the services.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Bob’s memory to one of his favorite causes, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation – an organization that reflects the values he held dear: service, sacrifice, and support for those who give all.
Bob lived simply, loved deeply, and left quietly - but his presence will echo in the lives he touched, the knowledge he shared, and the laughter he sparked. He will be missed beyond words.
