Frances M. Russo

April 8, 1925 — February 8, 2025

Slingerlands - Frances M Russo, 99, passed away, Saturday, February 8, 2025.

Frances was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Julius Stankus and Margaret (Jensis) Stankus. Her early life experiences compelled her to create a beautiful and welcoming home for her family and friends. She used her many natural gifts, including an eye for beauty, craftsmanship and a flair for fashion which when combined with her keen sense of thrift transformed a multitude of spaces. Her lovely gardens were an extension of her talents. Frances seized any opportunity to see the world and thoroughly enjoyed traveling to Europe and taking trips in the US. She had profound love and compassion for children in need. Together with her precious Paul, they consistently supported multiple Catholic charities taking care of those less fortunate. They assisted in feeding, clothing and helped to supplement households of countless adults, children and families.

Frances is preceded in Heaven by her dearest husband, Paul Russo of 58 years and her beloved son, Kenneth Russo. She is preceded in death by her siblings Alfred Stankus (Bunny), Julius Stankus (Patricia), Leo Stankus (Ada, Mary) Vera Smith (Joseph), William Stankus, Joseph (Angie), Larry Stankus and Richard Stankus.

She is survived by her daughters, Paula M. Russo (Ed Haddad) of Albany, Michelle Russo Deitz (Robert Deitz) of Knox and Germaine R. Russo (Christopher States) of Goshen, KY. She cherished each and every one of her twelve grandchildren and was thrilled to be a great-grandmother ten times. Frances is also survived by her sister, June Stankus of Schenectady and her sister-in-law, Janice Stankus as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frances’ family wishes to extend their profound gratitude to every member of the Slingerlands Peregrine community. Their impeccable professionalism, loving support and tender care made it possible for her to retain her independence and dignity, surrounded by family, friends and committed caregivers in her final beautiful home.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 26 at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumpter Ave, Guilderland. There will be a one hour visitation at 9:00 AM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Immediately after, interment will be at St Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
