Eugene Gee, 88, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026 at Albany Medical Center, in Albany, New York, with family. He was the son of the late Frank Kwok-toh Gee and Nellie Sou-young Lee. He leaves his beloved wife, Lucy of almost 67 years; sons, Lawrence, Allen, and Brian (Monica); daughter, Cathy (Justin); grandchildren, Matthew, Jackson, Rachel, and Willa; and extended family, King Gee, Kenny Gee, and May Gee; Edward Moy (Audrey); John Moy (Cho Young), and Lei-Jayne Moy; along with Jennifer, Melissa, and John Edward Moy.

Eugene was born an only child in Great Meadows, New Jersey on July 20, 1937.

He grew up in the Bronx, New York, and loved playing stickball. He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in 1955, where he was the Senior Class President, and where he met his wife, Lucy. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (R.P.I.) from which he received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree in 1959 and his Master of Civil Engineering degree in 1962. Also, at R.P.I, he was a Brother in the Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity and served as the fraternity’s President.

After working for two years in Manhattan as a structural engineer for King & Gavaris, Eugene returned to upstate New York with family, accepting a position in the bridge office at the Department of Transportation in Albany. He first resided with his family on Weis Road, but in 1966 moved to Van Wie Terrace in Guilderland. His dedicated career with the D.O.T. lasted 38 years, until when he retired in 1999.

During all of his Guilderland years, outside of work, Eugene loved driving, flying, and vacationing. He and Lucy traveled to Bermuda, Hawaii, Switzerland, Australia, Alaska, French Polynesia, and the Canadian Rockies. He loved taking the entire family to national parks and on weekend trips New York attractions like Lake George, Catskill Game Farm, Storytown, Frontier Town, and the Land of Make Believe. His favorite summer vacation spot was the Surf Motel on Cape Cod. Other favorite destinations included Cooperstown, the Thousand Islands, Bennington, Niagara Falls, Montreal, and Toronto.

As a devoted son, Eugene drove back and forth regularly from Albany to New York to visit his parents. He would always return to Albany bearing bags from Chinatown with roast duck, cha siu bao (roast pork buns), dan tat (custard tarts), and almond cookies. He loved to cook Chinese meals for others, and most of all, to feed large groups of people; he enjoyed hosting barbecues and cookouts.

As a father, Eugene spent generous time encouraging all of his children’s interests. He was a Board member at the Albany YMCA and participated with his sons in the Y Guides and Trailblazer programs. He faithfully attended his children’s and grandchildren’s concerts, recitals, art shows, little league games, basketball games, tennis matches, cross country races and track meets. His greatest pleasure was watching all of his children and grandchildren grow and flourish, and traveling to wherever they were to support them.

Eugene was a member of the McKownville United Methodist Church for almost sixty years. He served on many Boards for the church and cooked meals for church dinners. His generosity, volunteering at Albany Medical Center, offering to pay for family meals, organizing lunches and dinners with other D.O.T. retirees, and his enthusiasm for perennial social gatherings, was unmatched.
