Latham - It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we announce the sudden passing of Erin Couture, 40, on January 1, in Latham, New York. Her unexpected departure leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of all who were lucky to know and love her.
Born on May 24, 1985, in Schenectady, New York, Erin was a vibrant soul who brought immense joy and laughter to everyone around her. A 2003 graduate of Schenectady High School, she continued her education at The College of Saint Rose, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Public Communication, and later received her Master’s degree in Academic Advising from Kansas State University. Erin dedicated her professional life to helping others, serving in various roles within the North Colonie School District before becoming an Academic Advisor and the Director of Student Experiences for the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity at the University at Albany. Her work reflected who she was at her core—someone deeply invested in guiding, supporting, and uplifting others.
Yet, no title or accomplishment ever meant more to Erin than being a mother. Her greatest pride, joy, and purpose were her two sons, Jackson and Griffin. She was there for every practice, every game, every gymnastics competition, and every long car ride—cheering loudly and making every moment feel special. Family trips to Myrtle Beach, favorite cities like Boston and Philadelphia, spontaneous adventures, Ed Sheeran concerts, and even browsing college campuses wherever they traveled were moments she treasured deeply. What mattered most to Erin was not where they were, but that they were together, even if it meant enduring pickleball games she was admittedly terrible at, with a smile and a laugh that made it worthwhile.
Erin’s life was filled with love and unwavering support of others. Her sincerity and compassion for others made everyone she came in contact with feel welcomed, provided warmth, and a sense of comfort that will leave an impact on those around her. Her kindness left a lasting impression that will continue to echo through the lives she touched.
Erin is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 15 years, Garrett; her cherished sons, Jackson and Griffin; parents, Robin and Kevin King; grandmother Betty Cote; father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Margarete Couture; sister-in-law, Aileen (Wilson) McCray; nephew and niece, Hollis and Etta McCray; cousin and special friend Bryan Rohrer; chosen sister and brother, Angela (Andy) Mink and Chris (Jenna) Caruso; godson, Luke Mink; and a wide circle of treasured friends and family. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Helen King, and grandfather, Raymond Cote.
Erin’s love lives on—in her boys, in her family, and in the countless lives she shaped through her kindness, laughter, and devotion.
