Donald C. Thayer

COLONIE - Donald C. Thayer, 81, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 02, 2025 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Schenectady and was the son of the late Clifford S. and Grace Ford Thayer. Don was an electrician with the Albany County Sewer District, for thirty-five years. He was a longtime member of the Midway Fire Dept and had served as the Captain of the Rescue Squad. He enjoyed boating on Sacandaga Lake, hunting, fishing and tinkering at his home. Don was known for his quick wit and ability to make everyone laugh, especially around a campfire with a beer in hand.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sandra Pippert Thayer. He is the devoted father of April (Anthony) Crisafulli and Kristin Santoli (Michael Barton). He is the proud Papa of Anthony (Rebekah) Crisafulli, Justin Crisafulli (Kayla Krempasky), Vienna (Chase) Newton, Trey Santoli and Elijah Santoli. He is the great grandfather of Nicholas and Elena. Don is the brother of the late Blanche Matheson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Don’s family on Saturday from 1 to 4 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave. Colonie.
