Deborah Hope Scribner Dapo, of the Woodlawn neighborhood of Schenectady, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Born on April 3, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Francis (Law) Scribner.
Deborah was a 1977 graduate of Linton High School in Schenectady, NY. She went on to work for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance as an Entry Clerk, where she remained until her illness. Following her husband Donald's retirement, they moved to Plattsburgh, where she made her home for the next 25 years.
Deborah had a love for life and found happiness in the things that brought her joy. Music was always close to her heart, whether she was singing in the choir, enjoying karaoke at her favorite bar in Plattsburgh, NY, or simply listening to her favorite songs. She also had a creative side and especially enjoyed crafting. She made countless handmade creations, taking great pride in giving them as gifts to family and friends. Making something special for someone else was one of the ways she showed how much she cared.
She also loved shopping, whether it was browsing the latest finds on QVC or spending time at the mall. Another favorite pastime was going to the movies. Deborah loved the experience of watching a good movie on the big screen and would often be among the first to arrive when the movie opened. Even after losing her eyesight, she never let that stop her from enjoying something she loved and would take a cab to the theater.
One of the most meaningful parts of Deborah's life was meeting Donald, the love of her life, shortly after graduating from high school. Their relationship was a special part of her story, and she treasured the life they shared together.
Deborah will be remembered for her love of music, her creativity, her enjoyment of life's simple pleasures, and, most of all, the thoughtfulness she showed through the many gifts she made and shared with others. Her determination to continue doing the things she loved, despite life's challenges, was a reflection of her spirit.
She is survived by her siblings, Bonnie Bennett (the late D. Wayne), Denise (Jim) Rozen, Bobby A. Scribner, Peter Laz (Sue), and Paul D. Scribner; two nieces, five nephews, three great-nieces, and four great-nephews, as well as extended family and friends who will hold her memory close.
In addition to her beloved husband, Donald Dapo, Deborah was predeceased by her brother, Stephen Scribner (Joanne).
Deborah leaves behind many memories and will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will take place on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm, with a Funeral Ceremony to begin at 6:00 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Albany NY 12205.
