Carlann Joy Matson DiSanto, 80, passed away suddenly on August 9, 2026.
Born September 10, 1945, in Kingston, New York, Carlann was the daughter of Rudolph and Elizabeth Matson. She was born and raised in Kingston alongside her sister, Dayle (Craig) Burkhardt, and graduated from Kingston High School. Following high school, Carlann pursued her calling in nursing at Albany Medical Center School for Nursing.
Carlann eventually made her home in the Albany area, where she married the late James R. DiSanto and raised their three children: James (Jennifer) DiSanto, Daniel (Stacy) DiSanto, and Elexandrea (Patrick) Scheels.
During a career that included many years with Albany Planned Parenthood and Albany Gastroenterology Associates, she was a passionate advocate for women’s health and women’s rights. She believed deeply in a woman’s right to make decisions about her own life.
Those who knew Carlann knew her strength. She was strong-willed, fiercely independent, and determined to live life on her own terms. She could be one of the strongest and most supportive people to have in your corner. She was deeply protective of the people she chose to protect and love. She remembered all holidays and birthdays and will be remembered for all the cards she would send.
She was unapologetically and unmistakably herself. She loved The Wizard of Oz, Barbara Streisand’s music, puppy breath, her grandchildren and, most especially, her beloved dogs, Winston and Clem.
Carlann was the grandmother of Eva, Max, Jake, Derek, Sydney, Michael, and Cole, and aunt to her niece, Carissa Cullen.
She will be remembered not only for what she did in her 80 years, but the force and conviction with which she lived them: with strength, independence, and an unwavering determination to choose her own path.
In keeping with Carlann’s wishes, there will be no formal services.
