Benjamin F. Melton Jr.

Benjamin F. Melton Jr., 65, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026, at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Albany, New York, on July 14, 1961, he was the cherished son of the late Benjamin Sr. and Dasie Melton. Benjamin dedicated his career to serving as a skilled electrician for New York State, but his true life's passion was rooted in the simple, beautiful moments spent with the people he loved.

A larger-than-life presence, Benjamin was truly a legend. He was the undisputed life of the party, leaving anyone who met him with endless laughs and unforgettable stories. His absolute happiest place was in the yard, tending to his garden and caring for his chickens. He was an avid fisherman who could spot a body of water from miles away, always seeking out the nearest river or lake. In his heart, he dreamed of living on a sprawling plot of land surrounded by fruit trees, vibrant gardens, his animals, and his family.

His ex-wife Laurie DelSanto remained a constant pillar in his life and a devoted source of strength for his children for over 39 years. Whenever the kids needed help caring for Benjamin, Laurie was right there, frequently tending to his needs and standing firmly by her children’s side during every hospital visit. 

Benjamin is survived by his loving children: Rachael Mann (Michael), Rebecca DelSanto, Benjamin Melton (Angelica), and Michael Jones. He leaves behind a proud legacy in his grandchildren: Brian, Ian, Brooke, Sophia, Jason, Joshua, Kaylani, Riley, Leilani, and Niko. He is also survived by his siblings: Beverly Turman (Ray), Daniel Melton, Frederick Melton, Jeffrey Melton (Gemleta), and Kelvin Melton (Ingrid), along with a host of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin Sr. and Dasie Melton, his brother Felix Melton, and his beloved son, Brian Melton.

Honoring his explicit wishes, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. Benjamin asked instead to spend eternity resting alongside his beloved garden and chickens. 

The family will host a celebration of life in the coming weeks where friends and family can gather, swap stories, and celebrate the man who made every moment brighter. Details will be shared once finalized.
