Colonie - Artell T. “Art” Eastman, 82, of Colonie, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday January 21, 2026.

Born in Niskayuna, NY, to the late Artell S. and Ann Marie Eastman, Art grew up in the local area and graduated from Guilderland High School. A builder at heart, he began his career in construction and served as a surveyor during the historic construction of the Empire State Plaza. In 1970, he joined the machine shop at the Watervliet Arsenal, where he dedicated 28 years of service before retiring in 1998.

Retirement, however, didn’t quite take with Art. Seeking to stay active and give back to his community, he began a second career at Colonie High School as a hall monitor and aide. His dedication to the students of Colonie spanned decades; even in his later years, he continued to serve through 2018, specifically enjoying his time overseeing lunch duty and recess for the children.

Outside of work, Art was a man of simple pleasures and the great outdoors. He took immense pride in his yard and could often be found "puttering around" his property and riding his John Deere tractor, ensuring everything was just right. His love for sports and community was best seen through his years coaching baseball alongside his dear friends, Harry Kachadurian and Bill Levy.

Playfully known as "Colonie’s biggest fan," Art was a constant and beloved fixture at local athletic fields. He was most at home in his chair at practices, camps, and games, cheering loudly for the football and baseball teams throughout the career of his grandson, Caleb.

Art was predeceased by his wonderful wife, Donna Eastman. He is survived by his son, Artell R. Eastman (Danielle Moore), longtime friend and companion Barbara Hrachian, brother in law Richard Sheehy, his many cousins, as well as his beloved grandson, Caleb Eastman.

Art’s legacy of hard work, community service, and devotion to his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A special thank you to the staff at Peregrine Colonie for their compassionate care and kindness, as well as the many friends and neighbors who have offered support.
