Amasette “Amy” Brule, 85, of Schenectady, New York, formerly of Niskayuna, passed peacefully on October 6, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Born February 7, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, Amy was the daughter of Jack and Amasette Castle. She graduated from West High School in 1959 and completed her nursing education at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1962. During her time at the Mayo Clinic, she had the honor of scrubbing in the operating room with Dr. Charles Mayo, Jr.
Amy married the love of her life, Wayne Brule, in 1963. They raised their three children in Niskayuna, where they lived for 56 years before moving to Kingsway Village in 2021. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Amy especially loved bringing her family together for holidays, cooking favorite meals and decorating their home.
Amy’s nursing career included positions as a general floor nurse at Binghamton General Hospital and a surgical nurse at Albany Medical Center. She later spent 25 years at Community Health Plan in Latham and Ellis Hospital in Schenectady as an oncology-certified nurse, retiring in 2002.
Faith and service were central to Amy’s life. She served Union Presbyterian Church in Schenectady as an elder, deacon, worship department chair and choir member. After joining First Reformed Church of Schenectady in 2015, she continued serving in church leadership, including as senior elder in 2020, and singing in the choir. She also supported her children’s schools through PTO leadership and volunteer work.
Amy found joy in music, singing with the Thursday Musical Club and Mohawk Valley Chorus and playing handbells for 13 years. She and Wayne enjoyed traveling, including overseas concert tours and visits to national parks. Her other interests included photography, biking, golf and tennis. She was active in the Schenectady–Nijkerk Council and the Schenectady Rotary Club, where she served as assistant secretary, was named Rotarian of the Year and received the Paul Harris Fellow award. Amy embodied the Rotarian motto, “Service Above Self.” It defined her daily life, reflected in the care, kindness and generosity she shared with her family, friends and community.
Amy is survived by her beloved husband, Wayne Brule; her children, Jon Brule and his wife, Diane, of Littleton, NH; Anne Brule Webster and her husband, David, of North Andover, MA; and Michael Brule and his wife, Whitney, of East Hampstead, NH; her five grandchildren, Luz Brule, Colton Webster and his wife, Catherine, Cathryn Webster, and Gehrig and Tyler Brule; her sister, Jana Grenier and her husband, Danny, of Jacksonville Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Amy’s family appreciates the loving and compassionate care that she received from the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center and The Community Hospice over the last several months.
Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie and at First Reformed Church of Schenectady, 8N Church Street. Inurnment will take place at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
